View/Print 1098-T

This knowledge base article outlines the process for students and authorized users to obtain tax documents online.

Each year, in January, the Appalachian State University Office of Student Accounts submits an IRS Form 1098(T) to the IRS as well as to each student who had reportable data for the 1098(T) for the prior year. 

The student is sent or can obtain a copy in the following ways:

• USPS via the student's address
• Online (if the student opts-in to receive an online copy)
• Student's Appalnet portal/Authorized user login page

Note: If the student did not opt in to receive an electronic 1098T in Touchnet, the 1098T will be postmarked by January 31 and mailed to the address the student has listed in Appalnet.

View Tax Documents Online

Follow the steps below to access Touchnet and login through AppalNet:

1. Go to appalnet.appstate.edu 

2. Select the Student Tab

3. Click the third option – “Student Account Options”

4. Select “Tax Notification (1098-T).”

Steps to Consent to an Electronic 1098-T

1. The student must log in to Touchnet. (appalnet.appstate.edu)

2. From the Touchnet menu, select Consents and Agreements.

3. Locate Paperless 1098-T and click Change.

4. Update the opt-in selection to consent to receive the 1098-T electronically.

Important Note:
Once the 1098-T has been issued, any questions regarding the form should be emailed to [e-mail].

Authorized Users 1098-T Access

Authorized users will also receive an email if their student has given them access to view their 1098T. If an Authorized user cannot see the 1098-T, the student has not granted them access.  

Granting Access for Authorized User:

1. The student must log in to Touchnet through appalnet.appstate.edu.

2. Select the Student Tab

3.  Click the third option – “Student Account Options”

4. From the Touchnet dashboard, select Authorized Users.

5. Locate the authorized user and click the Action Wheel next to their name.

6. Select Edit.

7. When prompted, click Yes to allow the authorized user to view the 1098-T Tax Statement.
