This Knowledge Base article explains the difference between static billing statements and real-time account activity within the Billing & Payment Center by Touchnet.
Static Billing Statements
- Billing statements are static documents, meaning they show a snapshot of the account balance at the time the statement was created.
- Once generated, billing statements do not update to reflect new payments, charges, or adjustments made after their creation date.
Real-Time Account Information
For the most current balance, students and authorized users should view account activity directly in Touchnet.
- Log in to the Billing & Payment Center by Touchnet. (appalnet.appstate.edu)
- Select “View Activity.”
- This section displays up-to-the-minute changes, including payments, new charges, and adjustments.
- To generate a Real-Time Statement, use the option inside the portal to view or print an updated summary of the account.
Negative Balance Explanation
A negative balance on a billing statement means that, at the time of billing, the student had more pending financial aid or credits than total charges.
Encourage students with a negative balance to set up Direct Deposit in order to receive their refund quickly and securely.
To set up Direct Deposit:
- Review Direct Deposit Setup & Issues and follow the prompts to add Direct Deposit information.
Updated Billing Information
After the pre-registration bill is issued in mid-November, students who have not paid their balance, enrolled in a payment plan, or completed the Payment Agreement in Touchnet remain subject to schedule cancellation on August 11. These students will automatically receive updated billing notifications on the following dates:
- July 15
- July 22
- July 29
- August 8
Additional billing updates will become available after the first week of class.
Students who require an updated invoice for a third party can either generate a Real-Time Statement directly in Touchnet or contact Student Accounts at studentaccounts@appstate.edu for assistance.
