Common Book Rental Questions
Why am I being charged a Book Rental Fee?
The Book Rental Fee is automatically charged to eligible students each term as part of the Book Rental Program.
This fee covers the cost of renting required course materials through the ASU Campus Store and ensures affordable textbook access for all students.
I’ve never been charged a Book Rental Fee before — why now?
As of Summer 2021, the Book Rental Program expanded to include AppState Online Programs, in addition to Main Campus programs.
If you are enrolled in AppState Online courses, you will now see this charge on your account.
For questions or concerns, contact the University Bookstore for clarification.
Can I opt out of the Book Rental Fee?
Yes. Students may opt out of the Book Rental Program for a given term by contacting the University Bookstore.
- The program cannot be partially waived — students must either remain enrolled in the program or waive it entirely for that semester.
- Once opted out, the student is responsible for purchasing their required course materials independently.
