This Knowledge Base article explains what Title IV Authorization is and how students can grant permission for their federal financial aid to be applied toward non-tuition charges on their accounts.
Overview
Under Federal Title IV regulations, certain types of financial aid (such as Pell Grants and Direct Loans) can only be applied to specific tuition and fee charges unless the student grants authorization.
By completing Title IV Authorization, students allow the university to use their federal aid to pay other institutional charges such as:
- Health insurance
- Parking fees
- Book rental fees
- Other miscellaneous campus charges
Without this authorization, federal funds will only cover tuition, mandatory fees, and room and board, and any remaining charges will need to be paid separately by the student.
How to Grant Title IV Authorization
Students must grant authorization through the Office of Financial Aid before any refunds are processed.
